I always think that an animals ability to find their way home is amazing, and for Georgia, a rescue dog from Hurricane Katrina, it is nothing short of amazing, not only did she find her way home but she sure knows how to survive!

The doggie is 8 years old and a mix breed Shar-Pei, she really did put all her skills to the test when she was separated from her owner, Kris Anderson, while she was hiking in a wild region of southern California.

Georgia not only trekked for 9 days but she also traveled over 35 miles to get home, how amazing is this doggie, how proud her owner must be of her!

Kris, the owner is a well-versed hiker and at 64 years old she isn’t slowing down just yet. She took Georgia and her other dog to the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. It was June 27th and the trail they walked was new to them.

Georgia wandered off and didn’t come back!

Anderson said:

“Halfway to the waterfall, I heard the dog barking and it ran off …She gets so focused on critters and it’s hard to pull her away. In the past, she’s run away a couple of times before on walks but she would come back.”

Anderson went out to search for her, both with a ranger and by herself, for a good few days, she could not find Georgia at all.

The ranger said to her that there was not much chance that Georgia would survive with the wild coyotes and mountain lions that prowled the area!

Day nine arrived and Anderson had all but given up hope that she would find Georgia at all, with the thought that it was really not possible for her to survive this long. Just then she heard something, it was the doggie door opening and closing, it was Georgia!!

She walked in and jumped up on her bed, no signs of injury and in good health. The vet was even amazed by what good condition she was in. She had lost a little weight and was a little dehydrated, but apart from that in really great shape.

Anderson said:

“It sounds corny, I know, she’s a dog – but to me, she’s my baby …I never thought I’d see her again, and she’s special to me.”

Share Georgia’s fabulous story with everyone you know, how amazing right?
